Jennifer Ma

Jennifer Ma (she/her) has 27 years experience in private and public sector technology organizations in the data protection, GRC, and legal disciplines. She’s an energetic and creative individual who provides pragmatic guidance aligned with business needs.

Jennifer currently leads the privacy program at Hootsuite and its group of companies as the Senior Director, Privacy & Product Compliance and Data Protection Officer. Previously, Jennifer established a legal department and has built and scaled privacy programs in fast paced software companies. She has also developed corporate policies, established risk management practices, managed an audit function, and drafted and negotiated commercial agreements.

Jennifer has been a speaker, participated as an advisory board member, and moderator at data privacy and security conferences on topics including the GDPR, security and privacy strategies, and best practices in implementing privacy programs. She also served as an IAPP KnowledgeNet Chapter Chair.

She holds a B.Com, LL.B. and IAPP’s FIP, CIPP/C, CIPT, CIPP/E, and CIPM certifications and she is an Australian lawyer. She was awarded the Chief Privacy Officer of the Year (2021) by the Women in Governance Risk and Compliance Awards.

As a woman of Chinese heritage, and proud to be Australian and Canadian and the mother of 2 daughters, she believes it is vitally important to push the envelope on DE&I initiatives. She served as Co-Chair at the DE&I Committee at Hootsuite and actively supports DE&I initiatives in the organization.
